Peascod Breastplate

A peascod breastplate is a type of armor worn during the 16th century. It gets its name from its resemblance to the shape of a pea-pod, with a pronounced bulge over the chest. This design was intended to deflect blows away from the body, rather than absorbing them, as previous styles of armor had done.

The peascod breastplate was popular during the Tudor period in England, and was often worn by knights and other high-ranking soldiers. It was made from steel, and was usually decorated with intricate designs and engravings. The breastplate was often worn in combination with other types of armor, such as gauntlets, greaves, and a helmet.

The peascod breastplate fell out of favor in the 17th century, as firearms became more prevalent on the battlefield. It was replaced by armor that was designed to withstand the impact of bullets, rather than swords and other melee weapons. Despite its decline in practical use, the peascod breastplate remains a popular choice for historical reenactors and collectors of antique armor.
