The term “Spangenhelm” refers to the construction of the helmet. It is derived from the German word “Spange,” which means “strip” or “brace.” The helmet is characterized by its construction using metal strips or braces, which are typically riveted together to form a framework. This framework is then covered with plates, often in a conical or rounded shape, to create the helmet’s protective shell.
