Description
The sallet helmet was an important piece of armor in Europe from the mid-15th century until the end of the 16th century. The sallet was a popular choice for infantry and cavalry soldiers, providing protection from swords and spears. It was widely used in battles such as the Battle of Agincourt and the Siege of Rhodes.
The sallet was an improvement on earlier helmets such as the bascinet and the great helm. It was lighter and more comfortable to wear, and the visor allowed for greater visibility. As firearms became more common, the sallet was replaced by the close helmet, which provided better protection against bullets. Today, the sallet helmet is still used in some reenactments and historical productions. It is also a popular choice for collectors of antique armor and weapons.
